Joe Biden has been continuing his rabid campaigning in Iowa, eliciting interest on the ground and gaining money for his TV ads. He has been spending overtime at events in efforts to be seen as personable and as a statesman.
A writer from the Boston Herald proclaimed Biden should be the 08 Comeback Kid of the Year, after the integrity with which Joe Biden has conducted his campaign. Commenting on Biden's activity at events, he says Biden "doesn’t just roll in, make a speech and shoot off to another event". He has committed himself to improving his image in Iowa, and done all he can to ensure that he will have left it all on the table and have no regrets, regardless of the outcomes in the upcoming primaries and caucuses. Biden has drawn the line and declared that success, at the least a 3rd place in the Iowa primary, is necessary for him to continue his campaign.
Andrew Cline, the leader of the Manchester Union in New Hampshire, discussed in his blog a recent conversation he had with a respected Iowan journalist. The journalist believes that given Biden's recent surge, in which he has been battling with Richardson for 4th and 5th place in polls, Biden could pull off an upset and gain some significant momentum in the Democratic primary race. Contributing to the Biden surge, the journalist noted that Biden has a lot of respect and support in Iowa, and "he ends up being the second choice of a lot of Democrats who don't want Clinton to be the nominee". Biden's TV ads will soon hit the tube and hopefully they will be able to catapault him into the upper tier of the Democratic hopefuls.

It is interesting that Joe Biden does not simply stand on his plane and make a speech, then leave. Is he breaking away from this tradition of city hopping? This could possibly help his campaign since he will get newfound respect from Iowa, as I'm sure was his goal. Will this commitment to Iowa allow him to reach his 3rd place goal in the Iowa caucus? After the Iowa caucus, America will be able to determine if spending a lot of time campaigning in one state actually helps a campaign, or hurts it.
It seems Biden has been playing the geniality card very well. Candidate Bill Richardson recently acknowledged that he suggested that all the candidates vow not to attack one another during their campaigns, and the only candidate who agreed with him was Biden. Interestingly, however, during the last Democratic debate in Iowa none of the candidates seemed to attack one another (probably because they realized the negative feedback). With Biden's recent surge past Richardson, I'm really curious to see how well he does in the Iowa Caucus.
I think Biden has a great opportunity to do well in the Iowa Caucus because many people don't want to vote for either Clinton or Obama. If Biden does manage to surge to Third or even second, Biden has great opportunity to surprise us all. I think Biden is in it to win and knows what areas to work. It might be that Biden will surprise us all and do very well in Iowa. His strategy of focusing mainly on certain states seems to be working well for Biden since he has now surpassed Richardson. It's a shame that Richardson is falling behind.
