Happy Birthday Joe!!

Joe Biden celebrated his 66th Birthday on this past Thursday the 20th. President Elect Obama threw him a small little celebration at the Office with cupcakes! Although Biden has been out of the public eye recently, he has reportedly been making several phone calls to various world leaders in preparation for his term in office. Last week Vice President Cheney welcomed VP-elect Biden to the official VP mansion. Biden also named Ronald A. Klain his Chief of Staff last wednesday. In other news, Biden's son Beau departed for Iraq on Wednesday after declining to fill his father's Senate seat.

Wow. It seems like Biden has the cell phone that everyone wants...I'd like to be able call up those folks on weekends just for fun.

On a more serious note, how will his foreign affairs credentials play a roll in an administration where the Clintons have a firm grasp on foreign policy (possibly).

Will he be their boss, or their minion...or will he have no job.

Good questions from Samir. Has Biden already served his purpose as a means of backing up Obama with foreign policy credentials for the purposes of getting him elected? And if so, will Biden be dropped from the ticket in 2012? You heard it here first!

Biden people: news just came out today on Biden's replacement. Make sure to explain the politics of it in your next posting. Also, Ron Klain isn't just any random pick for chief of staff. After all, he has been played in the movies by Kevin Spacey.

Hopefully Biden and Clinton will be able to work together on foreign policy issues. If they can get over their differences and work together I think they can truly get a lot of things done in foreign policy.

It will be fascinating to see what role Biden assumes and what role he appears to have assumed in the Obama administration. And while there are probably not many who would accuse him of being the evil puppeteer behind Obama's throne, his image could do with a little polishing. The ideal forum for this would be foreign affairs, an area currently dominated by the Clinton dynamo. Keep a close watch on their interactions.

I agree with the Clinton hold on foreign policy, especially with CNN's placement of Bill Clinton under Obama's options for UN Ambassador. While I don't see that happening, I do see Biden's role minimized in the Obama administration. This may have just been a marriage of convenience. Maybe Vice President-elect Biden will display his forte with a foray into another issue.

Considering the lack of talk about Joe Biden lately and the nonstop jabbering about Hillary Clinton, I think that his initial selection as a relatively safe pick for Obama may translate into a somewhat less powerful status during his term (which isn't necessarily a bad thing considering the blunders of the current VP.)

Or maybe 32nd VP John Nance Garner knew what he was talking about when he described the office of the vice president as "not being worth a bucket of warm piss."
